When we think about yoga, often we overlook the aspects of it that take us beyond the mat. We may know that in our practice we are aiming for our breath and body to work in harmony to create the asanas. However, there are 8 limbs of yoga of which asana (poses) and breath (pranayama) are just two.
Over the coming weeks, I will update this blog to reflect each of the limbs. But for now, here is a very simple overview.
These limbs were prescribed by Pantanjali in the Yoga Sutras. They aim to explain the correct path to Samadhi. Whilst we may struggle with the concept of Samadhi, perhaps at the very least the limbs show how yoga developed to help and support us in our everyday lives.
