Finding stillness in the present moment

Finding time in the day to stop and take stock of what we are experiencing, can be very difficult. There are always chores to do, tasks to complete and others requiring our attention.

Any time spent practicing yoga - fully incorporating asana and pranayama - even if just for a few moments, is to find stillness in the present moment. This comes into question when we are wobbling about on one leg - but ANY distraction makes the pose almost impossible. An aim of our yoga practice might be to ascribe that concentration and focus to each of the parts of the session. Imagine the effects of applying that same focus to Savasana (corpse pose). The breath is a great anchor to come back to - indeed it is the basis of mindful meditation. When the mind begins to wander, which it invariably does, we can use the breath to hold us to each moment.
